ASLA (Tasmania Branch) mini-conference for school library staff

Mary Blake (Teacher Librarian with Aboriginal Education and English as an Additional Language)  and I developed a conference session looking at the general theme of Digital Curation.

Of course the expertise in curation is abundant in libraries, so we looked at some of the digital aspects and what it might mean for the future of school libraries and the careers of those who work in them.

This was done in the context of the trend of schools employing fewer librarians and the perception over the past years that school libraries were “dying out”. However it was stunning to see that the conference attracted about 70 people, which is exceptional and indicates that school libraries will have a bright future.

There was a range of expertise and hopefully we provided something that was of interest to most of those present. Thanks are extended to the sponsors and to the ASLA TAS Conference Committee: Mary Blake, Veronica Brunton, Helen Chapman, Ailsa Hill, Stacey Pryer, Ruth Rathbone and Isobel Williams.

Our presentation is available as a Microsoft Powerpoint file or as a PDF. It is free for educational use.
